Who Are We?

OSEMISE is a multilingual travel planning team based in Yunnan.

The name “Osemise” originates from the millennia-old creation epic of the Hani people in Yunnan. It is not only the legendary source of all things but also an eternal covenant between ancestors and nature.

We chose it as our brand name to invite you on a journey to seek the most authentic and vibrant vitality of this land, and to feel the ancient wisdom of harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature.

We act as cultural interpreters, bridging the gap between travelers from around the world and those who truly know Yunnan: the artisans, chefs, scholars, village guardians, inheritors of tradition, and native specialists who call this land home.

Beyond The Guidebook

We help travelers go beyond guidebooks – linking you with people who truly know Yunnan, curating authentic local experiences, and imprinting each journey as a story to be told, remembered, and carried with you.

What our founder says

Hello. I’m Jin Ran, founder of Osemise.

People often ask why I started this brand. To me, truly deep travel should go beyond surface symbols. So we built a system for deep cultural translation: we bring together scholars and local experts as cultural translators; over years, we have built trust with villages and keepers of authentic stories; and each journey is designed as a bridge—we offer clues, spark conversations, then guide you to knock on the door yourself and connect directly with the spirit of the land.

This approach grows out of my own journey. Growing up in Yunnan and studying language and culture in France gave me a view “from the boundary.” Looking home, I saw a gap: international visitors craved real depth, but most experiences offered only shallow symbols.

That pushed me into a long search: how could I use my skills to read and translate Yunnan in a meaningful way? The answer was in the field, not in books.

Following history’s traces, I became a detective of cultural sites. Take the Yunnan–Vietnam Railway. Asking, “How did modernity come to these mountains?”, I walked the line from Jianshui and Mengzi to Renzi Bridge. In archives, I read French engineers’ reports; in the wild, I found hundred-year-old rivets. I wanted to understand the complex ties between technology, capital, and local workers—not just railway history, but a living moment of civilisations meeting.

Another insight came in a quiet Yi village near Stone Forest. A couplet on a doorframe led me to knock. An elderly Yi grandmother sang a Bible poem in her Yi accent. As ancient Yi tones met sacred melody, I heard a foreign tradition take root and blend into local life. I learned: the truest moments often lie where cultures meet, overlooked by mainstream stories.

These journeys showed me the problem: good translation is rare, access to real places is fragile, and travellers rarely get to help write the story.

We believe that when a curious explorer meets a living culture, framed by skilled translators, walls come down. A personal memory becomes a real, warm, detailed Chinese story.
